Silica nanoparticles are particle size standards and spherical in shape. Silicon microbeads are highly accurate, monodisperse, NIST Traceable, size standards and available from 40 nanometers to 2 microns (2000 nm). Silica particles from 40 nm to 102 nm are suspended in ethanol to maintain monodispersity, while Silica particles from 105 nm to 2000 nm are suspended in 15ml DI Water solution. Silica particles have a refractive index quite close to polystyrene latex spheres, making silica particles useful for size calibration with wafer inspection systems, TEMs and SEMs using high powered lasers. Silica particle size standards used in drug delivery and to produce wafer calibration standards and silica contamination wafer standards. Silica microbeads are also available in 5 gram and 10 gram increments, or at any volume desired for industry requirements. Wafer Inspection Systems, SSIS, such as KLA-Tencor SP1, KLA-Tencor SP2, TopCon, ADE and Hitachi Wafer Inspection Systems can use SiO2 particles for size calibration. Silica Nanospheres are provided in particle sizes from 40nm to 2 microns to calibrate the size response curves of the respective wafer inspection systems and laser particle counters. Industries providing Portland cement, CMP slurries, pharmaceutical drug delivery use silica particles from 30nm to 2 microns. Silica microbeads are grown to accurate and repeatable size peaks. Silica nanoparticles are spherical and man made to specific diameters, where as most other process particles are non-spherical and non-uniform in size.

Silica for Chromatography is accomplished by using silica as the stationary phase in high performance, liquid chromatography (HPLC), ultra high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) industrial applications. The silica core-type particles are known to achieve higher separation efficiencies than porous particles due to their narrow particle size distributions (PSD). Our high-purity, monodisperse silica with narrow size distribution peak enhances chromatography due to narrow size distribution. The narrow size distribution of silica results in a higher efficiency and consistency due to bed and flow uniformity. The bed uniformity results in a reduced voids and reduced channeling in the silica bed, thus achieving longer life and proposed smaller plate heights. The silica nano-particles are surfaced with silanol groups supporting HILIC in normal phase and HPLC stationary phases. Wafer Inspection Systems are Scanning Surface Inspection Systems. SSIS tools, such as Surfscan from KLA, Hitachi and Topcon, can be calibrated using Silica particles, since the refractive index of Silica is close to the refractive index of polystyrene latex. Thus calibration between PSL Spheres and Silica nano-particles are similar. Silica nanoparticles are much more robust to applications using high powered lasers such as the KLA-Tencor SP3, SP5 and SP5xp wafer inspection systems. Silica particles withstand the high power of laser intensity of high powered lasers, and the Particle Wafer Standards produced using Silica nanoparticles are even longer lasting than with PSL Spheres. Silica particle size standards are available in bulk powder as functionalized silica or hydrophobic silica in 1Kg to 1000 Kg volumes with sizes ranging from 40nm to 2 microns for use in polymer filler. Silica nanoparticles used as size standards are also placed in DI Water solution as 15ml volume and 10% concentration with sizes ranging from 40nm to 2 microns. The use of Silica nanoparticles for SSIS size calibration and Laser Particle Counter, LPC, size calibration is superb, because the Silica particles will not shrink in size when scanned for size calibration by high power lasers used in SSIS and LPC instruments today. SiO2 particle sizes typically requested for SSIS and LPC calibration are 32nm, 40nm, 50nm, 60nm, 70nm, 80nm, 100nm, 125nm, 150nm, 200nm 250nm, 300nm, 400nm, 500nm, 600nm, 750nm, 800nm, 1000nm, 2000nm and 3000nm. Silica particles are also used in pharmaceutical drug delivery.
