In recent years, the issue of contamination has become a growing concern in various industries, including healthcare, food processing, and hospitality. Contamination can lead to the spread of harmful pathogens and bacteria, resulting in illness and even death in some cases. As a result, there has been a pressing need for more effective and efficient cleaning and disinfection methods to combat this problem.
The earlier version of this article described an unnamed study and a 99.9% contamination reduction without identifying the study, device, disinfectant, organisms or test protocol. Those results are not substantiated here and should not be treated as verified performance claims. Foggers can disperse fine droplets, but that mechanism alone does not demonstrate disinfection efficacy or complete surface coverage.
Contamination control matters in healthcare, food processing and public facilities. Effective programs combine appropriate cleaning, disinfection and other controls for the actual risks. Manual cleaning and label-directed surface disinfection remain important; fogging should not be presumed to replace them.
Any additional aerosol process needs evidence for its intended environment, including distribution, compatible surfaces, operator protection and safe re-entry. A result in one setting cannot automatically be generalized to another.
No identifiable study is provided to substantiate the previously stated six-month duration, 99.9% reduction or reductions in hospital-acquired infections and foodborne illness. Those claims are withdrawn pending a traceable source.
A useful study report should identify the equipment and chemical, organisms, starting contamination, controls, sampling method, detection limits, contact time, environmental conditions and uncertainty. Demonstrating a laboratory microbial reduction is different from demonstrating fewer clinical infections.

Foggers disperse liquid droplets into air. Droplet size, airflow, evaporation and deposition affect where a chemical is delivered. Physical mist distribution does not prove that every surface receives an effective dose or that organisms have been inactivated.
Use a compatible disinfectant only by an application method permitted on its current label. EPA guidance explains that safety and efficacy have not been evaluated for fogging when the product label does not include that method.
Potential applications depend on the specific chemical label, equipment instructions, surfaces and site validation. Healthcare and food-processing settings have different safety and process requirements. This article does not establish that an unspecified fogger reduces clinical infections, makes food safe or achieves a particular percentage reduction.
Compare methods using the same organisms, surfaces, contamination levels and endpoints. Include preparation, cleaning, treatment, ventilation, residual checks, staffing and downtime. Neither droplet size nor apparent reach proves superior cleaning or disinfection.
CDC healthcare guidance supports appropriate routine cleaning and label-directed surface disinfection. Any adjunct process should fit the facility’s infection-control program.
Future fogging technology should be judged by reproducible studies and validated applications rather than broad efficacy or cost-saving promises. Before procurement, request the current instructions, compatibility information, test reports and evidence relevant to the proposed use. No specific return on investment or disease-reduction benefit is established by this article.
