CRF4 Portable Cleanroom Fogger Used in Smoke Study of Clean Rooms, Sterile Rooms and ISO Suites

CRF4 Portable Fogger supports smoke studies in support of ISO 14644-3,

USP797, Federal Standards 209E, ISO 14644-1 and 14644-2 airflow guidelines

The CRF4 is ideal to visualize airflow in pressurized clean areas, such as glove boxes and barrier isolators. Because the CRF4 can be operated by remote control from outside a clean area, and because the CRF4 is relatively compact in size, it can be inserted inside or beside a glove box or isolator, allowing the fog volume and air flow velocity to be adjusted remotely. If space allows the CRF4 to be inserted inside the clean area, insert the CRF4 inside the clean area. If space is not available in the glove box or isolator, construct a pressurized, holding box next to the glove box or isolator. After placing the CRF4 inside the pressurized box, ensure pressure is maintained after closing. Cut two 80mm holes between the clean area and box, allowing air to be pulled in from the box and allowing fog to be directed into the top of the glove box or isolator. Connect the 80mm fog hose to the 80mm fog inlet of the glove box or isolator; and operate the CRF4 from outside using wireless remote control. The CRF4 is designed to tune the fog output to your airflow dynamics, providing up to 10 to 15 feet visible airflow. The CRF4 would be used in smoke studies of semiconductor clean rooms, ISO suites, sterile rooms, bio-safety cabinets, RABs and medical rooms. Airflow guidelines ISO 14644-3, USP 797,  Federal Standards 209E and its replacement ISO Standard 14644-1 and 14644-2 are supported for airflow recovery tests.

Smoke Generator, CRF4

Applied Physics provides clean room foggers to visualize airflow turbulence, patterns, velocity, and dead zones during smoke study. The CRF4 produces almost as much pure fog as ultrapure foggers, which use LN2 and DI water. It includes adjustable airflow, adjustable fog volume and wireless remote control, which is not found on other ultrasonic foggers.

The advantage of the CRF4 is the fog density generated at 187 ml per minute, which is higher than any other smoke machines in the world. When you look at the different smoke generators available, it is important to determine how much fog volume the fogger produces? How much fog density is generates? And the typical visual distance of the fog in typical sterile room operation. All foggers provided some form of direct control of the fog, but does your smoke generator offer wireless remote control of the fog operation, so that it can be used inside a closed area.

CRF4 Clean room Fogger

Watch CRF4 Fogger Video. The CRF4 portable cleanroom fogger is the smoke generator to select when you want higher volumes of fog, but do not want to use liquid nitrogen in your smoke study. The CRF4 produces 1.25 cubic meters of pure fog per minute with 187 ml of fog density per minute providing 10 to 15 feet of visible fog. It is the fog density and fog volume that generates visual fog distance. Most fog generators are described without referring to fog volume, fog density and visual airflow distances, showing marketing pictures of the fogger without describing fog performance. If the fogger you are considering does not describe its’ actual fog performance, how do you if the fog generator can meet your smoke study objectives? The CRF4 describes the fog volume, fog density and visible airflow distances, because customers buy smoke machines to achieve a desired level of air flow visualization in their smoke studies. There are a variety of accessories that can be plugged directly to the CRF4 output or attached to the 5 meter fog hose. Fog volume, fog density and visual fog distance are the primary reasons a customer needs a fogger in smoke studies.

When an engineer reviews different smoke generators for their upcoming smoke study, many of the tools offered offer limited technical detail. The purpose of a smoke generator is to visualize airflow, so it is important to know how much fog volume is provided by a fog generator? It is important to determine how much fog density is provided, as fog density is what enhances visual fog distance and fog volume emitted? Lastly, it is important to know the visual fog distance provided, since this should match your sterile room or ISO suite requirements. Watch CRF4 Video. Fog density is easily calculated by summing the total volume of liquids consumed, divided by the operational time at maximum fog volume.

The CRF4 portable cleanroom fogger is designed with a 316L stainless steel enclosure and electrolus polish for use in most pharmaceutical and semiconductor process environments. The CRF4 Fogger produces almost as much fog as competitive LN2 foggers, which use liquid nitrogen and de-ionized water. Yet, the CRF4 uses only deionized water, sterilized water or WFI water. Touch Pad Control is provided with the CRF4 as well as Wireless Remote Control; allowing direct control by the operator or remote control of the CRF4 inside a barrier isolator or closed clean room. 9 Accessories are available, such as CRF4 Carry Case, Accessory Carry Case, 5 Meter x 80mm Fog Hose, 1.3 Meter Fog Wand, Y Adaptor, T Adaptor, High Contrast LED Fog Light, 350mm Fog Nozzle, 80/50 Fog Hose Adapator Kit with 0.6M Fog Wand, Y Adaptor with Butterfly valves, Accessory Rolling Carry Case with Handle and wheels, CRF4 Carry/Roll Case.

Generate a Pure Fog for Smoke Study

CRF4 uses 35 ultrasonic piezo devices to generate a pure fog of 1.25 cubic meters / minute with 187 ml of fog density for 10-15 feet of visible fog.

There are a variety of methods to generate a fog used to visualize airflow and turbulence in clean rooms. LN2 can be combined with DI water to produce a very dense ultrapure fog. CO2 Ice can be used to produce a CO2 based fog as well; but the generated fog is lower volume and the volume of CO2 fog output will decrease as the CO2 ice evaporates. Glycol can be used to produce fog, but glycol foggers would not normally be used in a clean room, sterile room or ISO suite due to glycol film left on walls. Ultrasonic fog is the more consistent method with lower cost to produce higher volumes of fog. The CRF4 ultrasonic fog generator is less expensive, lighter weight than LN2 foggers and provides control of fog volume, control of fog density and offers wireless remote control to control the CRF4 clean room fogger inside a closed room or a barrier isolator.

CRF4 Portable Fogger
The CRF4 can be turned on or off at will, and refilled with DI Water, Sterile Water or WFI Water as needed. The fog volume can be adjusted higher to 1.25 cubic meters fog / minute or lowered to 0.5 cubic meters fog per minute, and the airflow can be adjusted from 10% to 100% airflow to fit your clean room air flow dynamics. The CRF4 does not use LN2, yet produces as much fog as the smaller LN2 foggers and the fog output can be adjusted; for a lower cost than any LN2 ultrapure fogger. The only maintenance is to drain water and to air dry the water cavity immediately after each fog study. In order to create larger volumes of fog, 35 ultrasonic devices are used, which vibrate at high frequencies, generating high volumes of vapor droplets at a diameter of 5 to 8 microns. The fog vapor is suspended just above the water line, and then captured by the internal airflow and directed outside the fogger into the clean room or clean area. Attach a Y Adaptor to direct two air flows upwards into the clean room. Or attach a 5 meter fog hose to direct fog as needed. The Y Adaptor can also be plugged into the tip of the 5 meter fog hose. If you prefer a 50mm fog hose output, a dual kit is available and provides two, 5 meter x 50mm hoses, each with a 0.6 meter fog wand attached, is available.

If the airflow needs to be adjusted, simply touch the up arrow for increased airflow to match your clean room airflow. Or touch the down arrow to decrease the airflow.

If fog volume needs to increase or decrease, go into mode control and adjust from 25% fog volume to 100% fog volume during operation.
